If you’ve been into the FinaleIRC channel a few times, it’s a good idea to register your nickname. This keeps others from attempting to impersonate you (a rare occurrence, but annoying nonetheless) by assigning a password to your chosen nick.
FinaleIRC is hosted on ChatSpike servers, so you will have to register on the ChatSpike network.
Here are the necessary steps:
1) Log on to the ChatSpike network by joining the channel.
2) Make sure that you currently have the nickname you would like to register. If you would like to change to another nickname before registering, type the following command:
/nick NICKNAME
3) Type the following command:
/msg NickServ REGISTER PASSWORD EMAIL
(Of course, you will substitute your own password and email address in the appropriate spot.)
4) Stay connected! You will receive an email from services@chatspike.net with an authorization code in a few minutes. If you don’t see the message soon, check your spam/bulk folders to see if it was accidentally flagged by your email filter. Go back to Step 1 if 10 minutes or more elapse without receiving an email.
5) Use the authorization code to prove that you got the email.
/msg NickServ AUTH CODE
That’s it! you are now registered. Your nickname now has a password, which you must provide to the server each time you log on by using the following command:
/msg NickServ IDENTIFY PASSWORD
Your IRC client software may have a space for “server password” or “nickserv password” in your irc.chatspike.net connection settings, and entering your password there will identify you to the server automatically when you connect.
